What exactly do I get?

HINOKAWA Volume I as a PDF: 104 pages with 40 recipes from 20 countries in five chapters. Every recipe has its own body page, and the book ends with a pantry guide, kitchen notes (safety temperatures, salt and conversions) and a body index. You get two editions: HD (107 MB) for tablet, desktop and printing, and Light (32 MB) for phones. It is a digital book, not a printed one.

What language is the book in?

English. Every recipe, note and nutrition page is written in English.

How do I receive it?

Right after payment, a download button appears on the order confirmation page, and the link also arrives by email. You get one ZIP file with both editions inside. There is nothing to ship and nothing to wait for.

Can I read it on my phone?

Yes. Tap the download button, open the ZIP in your phone’s Files app, then open the Light edition in Apple Books, Google Drive or any PDF reader. The contents page and bookmarks are clickable, so you can jump straight to a recipe.

Are the recipes difficult?

Half are level 1 (simple) and half are level 2 (a little practice). Every method has five steps or fewer, and 28 of the 40 dishes take 30 minutes or less of hands-on time. Some also need waiting time, such as marinating, soaking or chilling.

Do I need special ingredients?

Most ingredients are in any supermarket. A few Japanese basics, such as miso, shio-koji, mirin and dashi, are explained in the pantry guide. You will find them in Asian shops or online.

Where do the nutrition numbers come from?

Every value is calculated per serving from the USDA National Nutrient Database (SR28), USDA FoodData Central and the Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan (8th edition). Percentages refer to EU reference intakes (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011), and health statements follow the wording authorised under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. Real values vary with ingredients, brands and portion sizes.

Is this a diet or medical advice?

No. The book is for information and enjoyment. If you have a medical condition or food allergies, or are pregnant, talk to a qualified professional before changing your diet.

Is Kenji Hinokawa a real chef?

No. Kenji is a fictional chef character, and his photos and videos were created with the help of AI. We say so in the book and on this site because you should know. The recipes, the grams and the nutrition calculations are real.

Is it suitable for vegetarians?

Partly. Fish, meat, eggs and dairy appear in many recipes, and some dishes are vegetarian. Check each ingredient list: dashi, for example, is usually made with fish.

What units does it use?

Metric: grams, millilitres and °C. The kitchen notes include a conversion table for spoons, cups, ounces and °F.

Can I share the book?

The book is for your personal use, so please don’t copy, share or resell it. If a friend likes it, send them here. It helps us make Volume II.
